At first sigh by Nicolas Sparks/ ニコラス・スパークス
This is my first book by Nicolas Sparks. I have known his name for a long time, but I had not chosen what I would read next. Because I am not a huge fan of melodrama. However, I am so eager to improve my English deeper that I chose one of his books.
There are several reasons below;
- His books have many dialogues, between two people (mostly between a man and a woman, I guess).
- I can borrow his books from any libraries because he is famous.
- His novel's Lexile level rage is between 700 to 900, and mine is 1050.
- I would like to master 'tense'. I need to take a shower of tenses, like the past perfect tense, the future progressive tense, and so on. I guessed that romance novels have many 'thinking back'.
Whatever, I could have finished his book! It means good! And the story is not bad. Really good thing is it has some discussion questions for reading groups.
For example,
Toward the end of the novel, just as Lexie and Jeremy are settling into life as a married couple, new tension is suddenly added to the relationship. How do Lexie and Jeremy react? How would you react if this happened in your marriage?

もともと本が好きなので洋書をちらほら読んではきたのですが、はじめてニコラス・スパークスをよみました。
レクサイルレベルが低めで会話文が多く、回想シーンも多そうなので自制とか会話表現に慣れたい自分としてはいいかなとおもったからです。
結論としては、よかったです。
短期間で最後まで読みきれた、というのがまずなによりいい。文章構造も短くて読みやすいし、シーンのイメージもわきやすい。
映画化もたくさんされている筆者なので、両方で楽しめるのもいいところですよね。
この作品は唯一の二部作だそうで、しかも主人公たちがストーリーのはじまりからすでに恋におちている、付き合っている、という珍しいパターンだそう。
というか、これは二部作中の後半の作品なのだそうです。前の作品のストーリーをしらなくても全然読めましたので、問題なしです。
むしろ惚れた腫れたのベタなストーリーだったら最後まで読み通せなかったかもしれないので、最初に選んだ作品としてはベストだったかもしれません。和訳はないみたいです。
いわゆる恋愛小説は初めて読みましたが、いろいろ勉強になっておもしろかったです。私にはそこまで中毒性がなかったので、次々読みたい！とはならなかったのですが、疲れているときなどにうってつけかなと思いました。
難しくないのにすっと作品の世界に入って行くことができる。すごい才能ですよね。
